Fleeting moments in time
The days speed by so fast,
The babes we cradled once
Seem so far in the past.
Our children so vibrant
With toys and games galore,
Endless days of playing
But now there’s something more.
The need to help others,
To be responsible,
Expanding their boundaries,
Growing knowledgeable.
Incredible insights
To solve the world’s woes,
So simple the answers
That these young persons know.
Our children’s growing […]
My hometown is still my hometown, Charlotte, NC. I have been in accounting for over twenty five years. Writing is one of my creative outlets. My daughter has been the major influence in my writing. She's my hero!
"Our children's growing minds, They look through caring eyes, I have hope for the world, In them the future lies." This is the last stanza of my poem "Our Children" which was one of my first creative endeavours. I am now a first-time children's book author.

Only she is aware of its particular significance in her life as she carefully
Reaches out to hold it between her two hands. The intense beauty forever
Captures her attention and never fails to captivate
Her heart. With hesitant fingers, she caresses it gently, marveling at its
Intricate petals, surprisingly strong to the touch, for at […]

(A satiric analogy about literary egoism)
“I have groped across this muddle long enough!
It has become quite onerous, and there are far too
Many aspirants digging wells in salt mines looking
For diamonds - wannabes slobbering with hilarity
After discovering that “screw you too” is a rhyme.”
“Didn’t mommy ever tell you that you were boring
And pedantic
And arrogant
And conceited
And condescending […]

More years ago than I care
to consider, I wrote to Celestine Sibley, a long-time columnist for
The Atlanta Journal & Constitution, “There must be an easier
way to persecute one’s self in life than by writing.” I even went
so far as to suggest the need for the formation of “Writer’s Anonymous”
for those of […]
Southern writer who loves living in the South. As listed on the cover of my novel--Who's There?--my favorite quote is by Flannery O'Connor. When asked why southern writers always write about the grotesque, responded: "Maybe we are the only ones left who still recognize it." Also write plays and screenplays, and in 2002, published my first children's book--Tinker's Christmas. Sold 600 copies in 4 weeks, and then the reality of marketing hit. Am still recovering.

the click of the lock
on a door as it closes
in your face
then the chain slides home
is
the sliver of light
silence swallows
laughter leaving you out
all night whispers
is
dark torturing dusk
before moving in for the kill
raising gooseflesh
as it follows you to work

Writing Bug bit when I was 8. Little prize at 12, that was IT. Now, if I just had time to actually put the words swirling in my head on paper. But life is what it is. Laziness and reverberations from a chaotic childhood combined with pressures having to do with gender and class and time slipped past. I messed up, okay? Add normal distractions like marriage, parenthood, returns to school, juggling jobs. . .. . you get the picture. Got a bag of excuses, take all you like. . ~{P}~ By 1986. . .{contin'd at www.authorsden.com/phyllisjeangreen; thanks.}
