Djerba

Djerba, or Jerba, is a resort island off the coast of Tunisia.

History

The island was temporarily the naval base of the privateer Khair ad Din Barbarossa in the 16th century.

Modern Times

In 2002 a Jewish synagogue on the island was bombed, killing some German tourists. The bombing was blamed on Al Qaeda.
