The View
The hollow beat of thunder
Arises in my chest;
Voltage brings up heartbeats,
They say it’s for the best.
Whisper me: “it’s over”,
But only just begun,
Inside me all I think is that
He’s handing me the gun.
Plug me in, keep me up,
It’s all I need right now;
Another day to question why,
When and who and how?
There’s nothing more he can do
For me, or for my life.
Joy comes in shapes, shadows,
But never as a wife.
This, my salutation
Is all I have to fear,
Because I like the view,
The view from way up here.
