Escape
Baring wisdom whispers,
Unvalued time,
A place often too far to reach,
As if happiness were a crime.
When told to do what’s said,
My heart slows it’s pace,
It feels divorced and miles away,
I’m dejected in this place.
A feeling thrust upon me,
It’s anger thaws my mind,
Words that echo more than kin,
And a little less than kind.
Branches wonder north,
And ceilings stunt my growing,
But what if I found a window,
And grew without them knowing?

This beautiful poem captures the essence of losing one’s truth to others’ perceptions. It seems sometimes we find our authenticity trespassed upon by others’ imposing notions. I love the last two lines of this piece as they show a resolve to find a way to be true to Self.
