Women helping women… the power of love.

I give thanks every single day for my many blessings. And because I feel so blessed, I always want to try to help others. Giving is an addictive thing, but luckily, I’m in a wonderful position to make it easier.
A good friend and I organize an annual “Reader & Author Get Together” every June, in West Chester, Ohio. Authors in various stages of their careers gather with happy readers and industry professionals to share our love of the written word, to chat and eat and relax. It’s like a giant, loosely organized tea party. During the event, we raffle off donated baskets, and donate the proceeds to various organizations.
(Registration is open to everyone, cost is only $35 for the entire weekend -which covers most meals- and you can find more information here: http://lorifoster.com/community/readergettogthr.htm )

This year, to go along with our special event, we’ll have a very special book release. The Power Of Love is a romance anthology published by Berkley.

Authors include:

Lori Foster
Erin McCarthy
Toni Blake
Dianne Castell
Karen Kelley
Rosemary Laurey
Janice Maynard
LuAnn McLane
Lucy Monroe
Patricia Sargeant
Kay Stockham
J.C. Wilder

Best of all? The authors and their agents are donating ALL of their proceeds to the Cincinnati Battered Women’s Shelter.
Every book sold will add to the amount given. It’ll be the gift that keeps on giving.
I’m really excited about it, and I hope readers will be too.
There’s more, and a link to buy, on my website at www.lorifoster.com

Thank you!

  1. Hi! You know, most publishers have submission guidelines on their websites. So try googling various publishers to see who publish real-life stories like yours. I don’t know of any personally, but then, it’s not what I write. I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities. But know that it is very, very difficult to get sold. So be patient. Get the story written and then find some publishers to submit it to for consideration.
I wish you lots of luck – in publishing, and in life.
    Hugs,

    Lori

  2. I am a struggling 42 year old woman with a six year old daughter. I want to rise above poverty. I make 10,000 a year and that is not enough to survive.I have always wanted to share my story of incest in a book. My childhood and my personality type made me the person I am today.Afraid and untrusting of the world.
I don’t want my daughter to see me as unsuccessful. I need to do something for us. Can anyone help? Any suggestions on who to ask for help on writing and publishing.
Thank you for the ability to ask even if no one can help.

  3. What a great cause that you are supporting!
I really wish I could make it to the June event so I could get my own signed copy of this book. I know it will sell well there as well as online!

  4. Wow, thank you everyone for dropping by and commenting. I’m so flattered!
Dianne Castell, my cohort in all things, is dead-on about the June event. We’ve done our best to keep it affordable for all. We can guarantee you a great time with/for authors and readers alike.

Cara… ah. Thank you so much. The thing is, I couldn’t do much at all without the help of such generous readers and authors. The book industry, especially romance, is so considerate and caring about everyone. It’s part of what makes us ALL so special.

    Hugs to everyone!

    Lori

  5. I can’t wait til May! Gonna be so nice to finally meet you face to face. I am so excited about getting my copy of The Power of Love!

  6. Unfortunatily I won’t be able to make the event. I wish I could, But you understand why. I do how ever so look forward to the power of love coming out. I know I myself will be getting several copies. So that I could give them out to my friends and sister. You are just too good not to share. Hopefully you do sell alot of copies so that your shelter could help many abused women. You are such a wonderful writer and to give of your self like you do is such a huge blessing. It’s truly wonderful to see one of Gods many angels doing his work. God Bless you!!! For everything that you do for everyone!!!!!!

  7. Im going to be at the event this year! And I can’t wait to meet everyone and have fun weekend that is way overdue :). June can’t come soon enough for me.

The charity events that you do Lori are truly amazing. I can’t wait to read The Power of Love. Everyone who helped to make this book happen have big hearts :)

  8. The reader/writer get-together is a fun and inexpensive way for bookloves to come together and talk books. That money we make from raffles and booksales helps the battered women’s shelter makes it all the better.

There is nothing more powerful than women helping women and the stores in The Power of Love underscore that.

Can’t wait to see you all in June.

  9. Lori is an inspiration and role model to many authors striving to follow in her footsteps. I don’t just mean the NY Times footsteps either. She is a genuine person who gives back to everyone she encounters. I am thrilled to know about THE POWER OF LOVE anthology and it only makes sense that she is a part of it.
Keep up the good work, the good writing, and I’ll continue to enjoy reading.

  10. As someone who has attended Lori’s annual Reader & Author Get Together every year since she began it, I can highly recommend the event. It’s a fun, informal gathering, where aspiring authors have the opportunity to pitch to agents and editors, published authors get to meet readers (and vice-versa), and a good deal of money is raised for very deserving causes.

I’m also looking forward to reading the stories in THE POWER OF LOVE anthology. ;-) It’s a wonderful charity fundraiser, and many of the people on my Christmas list will be getting a copy of THE POWER OF LOVE in their stockings this December.

  11. Lori, thanks so much for all you do! The reader and author get together is one of the most awesome events I ever attended and I can’t wait to go again this year!

Hope this wonderful event grows and grows!
    God Bless!

  12. Lori, I am thrilled to be going to your annual event again this year, and I cannot wait to get my copy of “The Power of Love”. I think it’s great that you are passing on your blessings to others. You’ve been a real inspiration to me over the years, and I thank you for bringing so many important causes to our attention. Can’t wait to see you in June :)

  13. As a past attendee and reader, I can honestly say this event in June is tons of fun. All the readers and authors are super friendly and the whole weekend is a blessing in itself.

The Power of Love anthology will surely be fantastic – just look at the contributing authors! You can’t go wrong with any of them, and they will sign your copy while you’re there. Many thanks to Lori and Dianne for hosting this event every year.

  14. Great article, Lori! I’m looking forward to getting a copy of THE POWER OF LOVE, especially knowing that the proceeds will have a positive impact on a very worthy cause! As women, we need to be there to offer support to other women who are struggling against heartbreaking odds to keep themselves and their children safe as they make a new start.

  15. Lori, I’m so thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful project. Not only is the June Reader/Writer Even such relaxing fun but raises money for such worthy causes. I’m looking forward to June!

  16. I cannot wait for it!!! For me it means summer is coming and it is a blast!!!

As for Power of Love you couldnt ask for a better lineup!!!

  17. Lori – You know how much I enjoy your event in June!! And what makes it even bertter this year is that we’ll be celebrating the release of “The Power of Love”. I hope this book sells thousands of copies so that we can make a significant difference to the financial botom line at the shelter.
